Season of Creation

September 14 - October 6

The Season of Creation

As Christians, we are called to care for the whole created order. This four-week series will focus our minds and hearts on what our Prayer Book calls “this fragile earth, our island home.” Look for Saturday morning walks, a blessing of our vegetable garden, a presentation on green infrastructure, and other activities. The season concludes with a celebration of the Feast of St. Francis with (of course) a blessing of the animals on October 6.

September 15, 22, 29 - Theologies of Creation Care. A discussion on a few different Christians approaches to the care of creation. 9 a.m., parish hall classroom.

September 14 - Walk and Pray at the Kishwaukee Headwaters. Begin the season with a time of reflection on the beauty and importance of the created world. We will pray together at 9 a.m., then walk through the park together with time to stop along the way and pray. 9-10 a.m. 1606 Dean St, Woodstock.

September 15 - Offer the gifts of your land. Bring flowers, plants, and/or produce from your own garden to decorate the altar at St. Ann’s. At the end of the 10 a.m. Eucharist, the congregation will head out to the St. Ann’s vegetable garden to bless the garden, pray for those who receive its produce, and learn about this ministry. 10 a.m., church.

September 22 - Green infrastructure. Presentation on Green Infrastructure by Dennis Dreher, Steward of Boloria Meadows in Bull Valley. 11:15 a.m., parish hall.

September 28 - Tour Boloria Meadows. This 36 acre-property features meadow and woodlands and is managed by the Land Conservancy of McHenry County. Come tour the meadows and learn more about conservation work happening locally. 9-10 a.m., 7219 Millburne Ct, Bull Valley.

September 29 - Meet the goats! Fr. Scott’s and Charles’s goats (Ron, Harry, and Neville) invite you to come say hello and meet them, the chickens, the ducks, the sheep, and the pig. Enjoy some time with the animals and with each other. Special presentations for kids on how to care for sheep and goats. 3-5 p.m., 3810 Dean Street.

October 6 - Feast of St. Francis and Blessing of the Animals. Our annual blessing of the animals will be held during the 10 a.m. Eucharist, rain or shine. Come one, come all, come all creatures, great and small. 10 a.m., church.
